The dire energy situation in South Africa has raised awareness of where and how to save electricity.

Houses and buildings in South Africa have seldom been designed from an energy-saving point of view. For years, little thought have been spent on electricity reduction.

Now, however, our country has asked everyone to save power by at least 10%. Inconsistent information from Eskom about how to achieve this and when to introduce power saving measures have unsettled residents as well as developers and constructors. There is talk of forcing residents to install smart meters, setting electricity quotas for each household and subsidising solar water heating systems. Only the latter has been confirmed for suppliers who comply with certain regulations. SolarSpace has applied for this programme.
