Eskom warns of high tariffs

According to Eskom consumers have to expect high electricity tariff increases over the next years. The increases will come on top of the already agreed 31,3% hike of this year. The government's capacity to fund Eskom's expansion programme is limited as tax revenues will drop due to the economic crisis. On the other hand  Eskom must  ensure the security of sufficient electricity supply. The new tariff application will be submitted to Nersa by the end of the year - new tariffs would take effect from  next April.  (Business Day, 10.09.2009)
